IC 3.7.2 Release Notes
The headline of this release 3.7.2 is a completely rebuilt search experience. Alongside it, we have given you more control over who can do what inside a workflow, cleaned up day-to-day friction in widgets and calendars, and made the move from your existing intranet smoother if you are migrating.
New: A Rebuilt Search Experience
Search is no longer a list of links you click through one at a time hoping you picked the right one. The page is now split in two: your results on the left, a live preview on the right. Click any result and it opens in the preview panel instantly, without taking you off the page. You can scan five documents in the time it used to take to open one and come back.
Finding the right result. Every result row now shows you what you are looking at before you commit to it: a type icon, the title, a snippet of the content, the breadcrumb path showing where it lives, and when it was last modified. If the item has files attached, those appear as chips right underneath. Hover over a row and it highlights, click anywhere in it, not just the title, and the preview opens.
Filtering by what you need. Category tabs across the top let you narrow to All, Docs and Forms, Pages, Images, People, or More, which opens a dropdown for anything else. A result count sits above the list so you always know the size of what you are looking at.
Previewing people. Selecting a person shows their photo, name, role and department, along with email, phone, who they report to, location, work anniversary, and birthday. Their job description and About Me section appear underneath when they have filled them in. Anything left blank shows a clean dash rather than a gap.
Previewing pages and content. You get a short summary first, then the full content with its formatting and links intact, and a line at the bottom telling you when it was last modified and by whom. Long pages scroll inside the panel.
Previewing documents and images. PDFs show a first page thumbnail so you can confirm you have the right file at a glance. Images display at full panel width. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files show a card with the file type, name, last modified date, and the first few lines of text pulled from inside the document. Documents stored in SharePoint pull a real thumbnail through Microsoft 365 and carry a SharePoint marker in the results list, so you can see at a glance which results live where.
Working with attachments. When a result has multiple files attached, each one appears as a chip you can click to switch the preview between them without leaving the page.
On mobile. Search stays as a clean single-column list. The preview panel is hidden rather than squeezed in, so nothing feels cramped.
We also fixed an issue where content could disappear from the content page after an unrecognised keyword search.
Forms And Workflows
Bring people in before the approvals start. Workflows now support an optional collaboration stage that runs before any approval. You choose who collaborates and which sections of the form each person is responsible for. Collaborators only see and edit what has been assigned to them, private sections stay between the collaborator and your administrators, shared sections are visible to everyone downstream, and the workflow will not move forward until the collaboration work is done. Everything is recorded in the audit history you already have.
Control which fields each approver can touch. You can now set field permissions stage by stage. An approver at one stage edits only the fields assigned to that stage, and everything else is locked, including anything attempting to change it behind the scenes. Forms you have already built keep working exactly as they do today unless you choose to set stage permissions on them. The rules hold through the whole lifecycle, including when something is resubmitted.
Faster, more reliable form response searching. When you change how a form's data is indexed, the rebuild now happens automatically in the background rather than interrupting anyone, and it picks up where it left off if it gets interrupted.
Approval fixes. We resolved a set of issues in the approval flow where submitters were not receiving emails, an approval error was reported incorrectly, and notifications were arriving late. We also fixed the employee picker used in approver fields, read-and-confirm dialogs, review dates, and permission settings. It now lists everyone, sorts alphabetically, is searchable, and no longer causes the page to stop responding.
Calendars And Events
Event categories now stay properly separated between calendars, and a colour change to a category is reflected in the category list right away. Clicking Publish more than once no longer creates duplicate events, newly created categories appear in the list as expected, and the calendar feed now shows upcoming events correctly.
The Upcoming Events widget has a new display range setting so you can show the next 7 days, the next 2 weeks, or the next month.
Pages And Widgets
The Add Story button is back in the admin menu, and it now correctly appears for anyone with permission to the story bar rather than administrators alone.
Reactions and comments stay in sync between the App Feed and the What's New widget, so engagement on an item shows up wherever that item appears.
The App Feed widget shows real profile photos when thumbnails and employee display are both turned on, falling back to initials rather than a generic icon when someone has not uploaded a photo. The Anniversary widget applies your department filter correctly on load and when settings change.
We also fixed page background images that would not load depending on how you navigated to the home page, hero banners that resized inconsistently, and an error that could occur when reordering widget rows on certain pages.
Documents
We removed an empty first page that could appear when paging through a root folder.
Migrating From Your Existing Intranet
If you are moving from an earlier version of Intranet Connections, running a migration a second or third time is now supported cleanly. Anything created since your last run, including users, departments, employees, photos, credentials, groups, sites, and pages, is brought across without errors or duplication.
The migration screen itself has been rebuilt to show what you have already done: how many runs have completed, when the last one was, how many items came across for each application, and roughly how much new content is waiting. You can filter the view to show only the applications that have something new.
We also fixed an issue where certain older forms with a pre-set default date would not open correctly after migrating, and one where a migrated employee could appear twice in the org view.
Behind The Scenes
Sessions now allow more idle time before signing you out, and we corrected an issue where saving certain permission combinations could partially fail without warning.
